The moon has a powerful effect on us. The moon in a birth chart tells an astrologer a great deal about your personality, habits, emotions and relationships. Astrologers look at the zodiacal sign of the moon, its astrological house, and aspects for some of this information. They also can learn a lot by knowing what phase of the moon you were born under.
Every thirty days, the moon goes through a complete cycle in relation to the sun and earth. This cycle begins each month when the Sun and the Moon appear at the same degree and sign of the zodiac. As the Moon, the faster moving of the two bodies, moves ahead of the Sun, it forms a series of angles or phases to the Sun, until it once again "joins" it in the sky to begin the cycle anew.
On earth, we see its changing phases as it moves through this cycle: new Moon, waxing crescent Moon, first quarter Moon, waxing gibbous Moon, full Moon, waning gibbous Moon, third quarter moon, waning crescent Moon. Each phase has its own unique energy and characteristics, and people born at these phases take on their distinctive traits.
The phases of the moon also supply helpful information on daily living. Once we identify the part of the cycle we are currently experiencing (see our moon phase calendar by pressing here), we can tailor our thoughts and our actions to take advantage of that particular energy, working with the flow instead of against it.
